Abstract
Motivation plays an important role in determining ones positive attitude in daily life. Having got an open minded internal attitude, self directed learning process will be achievable. Previous researches in regard to motivation concentrated more on student’s motivation at school. Thus, this article discussed on relationship between motivation and self directed learning. The instrument used to measure the motivation factor is Motivated Strategies for Learning
Questionnaire (MSLQ) while Self Directed Learning Readiness Scale (SDLRS) was used to measure self directed learning. The study undertaken by researcher was done among government officers from management and professional group
in Ministry of Education. About 258 officers were selected for this research purpose. The study showed that there are significant correlation between motivation’s dimension like intrinsic value, self efficacy, modeling and benchmarking and self directed learning. In order to improve self directed learning among government officials, the ministry should plays important role to make sure officials have the attitude of exploring new things to improve theirs knowledge and skills.
