Abstract

This study was carried out in forty-nine secondary schools in the Kinta District in Ipoh, Perak. The aim of the research was to identify the factors which influence the teachers involved in the teaching of Health and Physical Education subject. A total of 139 respondents, who were selected randomly among the practising Health and Physical
Education teachers, was involved.
The data collected was then analysed using the SPSS programme. The findings of the study were:
i. There was a significant relationship between the teaching performance of Health and Physical Education and demographic factors such as the teachers’ option/specialisation, and their length of teaching experiences.
ii. There were significant differences among teachers who had Health and Physical Education as an option in their teacher training compared to those who none.
iii. Other factors such as skill, knowledge and in-service training also showed significant relationships with the teaching of Health and Physical Education subject.
Overall, the findings of this research showed that significant relationships exist between the dependent variables and independent variables under study.
Apart from that, this study also uncovered additional findings relating to two independent variables which were not included in the conceptual framework (but were
part of the questionnaire). The two variables were gender and the grade of the school where the teachers were based. It was found that there were no significant relationships
between the two variables concerned and the teaching performance of Health and Physical Education subject.
